A Fist Full of Bullets and Brushes

Hey everyone! My final semester at SUNY Purchase has begun and I'm getting my senior project up and running. With a new semester and final project on the way, I decided to start a new body of work that is going to spark a war.

I believe that good art has to fight its way through crowds of bad artists, stubborn critics, and standards. I have made a list of my favorite artists; some famous, some not so famous, and some I am grateful to know personally. Picasso, Travis Millard, Warhol, Paul Pope, Banksy, Goya, and Mcbess are just some of the artists who are on the list. My senior project will comprise of images that will be similar in nature to collages. I will be juxtaposing pre-existing images that reference artists and their work with guerilla warfare imagery. The struggle to earn wall space and to spread great art is an important war to be fought. I want this body of work to stand up against the artists who believe that money makes art, the people who support that form of work, and the galleries that give wall space to prostitutes and exclusionary circles.

This is the first etching in the series. My buddy Spencer Alexander and Picasso firing their AK-47s. The battle has begun.

Over and out,
Alex
